Birkoff: Related Characters

 Jason

Jason Crawford is Birkoff's twin brother. Birkoff finds out about him in 407 Sympathy For The Devil, his name in the file being Birkoff, Jason. After the two of them were born in Section, Jason was allowed to have a normal life outside as a psychological study. The decision which one would stay in was done by flipping a coin. The two brothers meet in 412 Hell Hath No Fury.

Initially Jason is working at Micro Technologies, his license plate says "BYTE ME", and he has a girlfriend Naomi Hill (played by Larissa Gomes) who turns out to be a Section Operative. He is recruited into Section in 416 Catch A Falling Star right after Birkoff's death, to pretend to be Birkoff so that Oversight doesn't find out about Section's mistake. Jason soon becomes a friend of Walter and Nikita, following Birkoff's model, and is transferred to the Center by the end of Season 4 at Mr. Jones's demand.

Birkoff: No matter how long you’ve been in here at least you know where you came from. You know who you are.  Do you have any idea what it felt like to know that I’m part of something? Someone?  To make that connection.

Jason: Anyone know how to get room service in this place?

Gail

A data processing operative, Gail was his girlfriend for a while from the episode 107 Noise in Season 1 until 217 Inside Out in Season 2. 24 episodes, about a year of "real" time. She dumps him for Janklow, another operative, but regrets it by the end of the episode. As she doesn't appear after that any longer, we can assume he didn't take her back.  Her character is also featured in 208 Darkness Visible, where we learn that she likes to steal money from bank accounts, and that Section knows and creates fictitious accounts for her to break into. Interpreted by Tara Sloane, most recently seen on CBS's Rock Star: INXS.

Gail: I don't care how tired you are, I'm not taking a rain check.

Greg Hillinger

Birkoff's Arch Nemesis or biggest rival in Section. Recruited in 215 Fuzzy Logic to break a code Birkoff was unable to, he's a child prodigy, with a PhD at 13 and tenured at some university at 17. His recruitment was supposed to be temporary, but he's lured by Section's high tech gadgets and wants to stay in. Nikita shows him the other side of the medal but by that time it's too late to quit. His dry sense of humor and lack of reverence towards everyone in Section make him one of the best characters of the show.

From his arrival, he sees Birkoff as a challenge and attempts to set him up on several occasions. After one mistake too much, he's put in abeyance and appears to be canceled, when in fact he's recruited by George, Operation's superior and enemy, and moves on to Oversight. In 414 Line in the Sand, the conflict between the two of them climaxes as Birkoff runs against the clock between being cancelled (killed) and finding the Cardinal, chief of Red Cell, Section's biggest enemy. Birkoff is successful and Greg is canceled along with George for conspiring against Operations and the team. Birkoff is unhappy about his death. Played by Chris Lemke.

Greg: What about Birkoff? Seymour Birkoff, age 21, 135 lbs, 28 division sys admin for every host on this land. Should I continue?
(Fuzzy Logic)

Birkoff: Ever since Greg came to work here, I've been second guessing myself.
